March 8th, Around 1615hrs. BOX 31-5 was dispatched for a building on fire in the area of Jenson Lane and Axis Road. Engine 19 arrived with fire throughout the 3-story building and a working fire dispatch was requested and sometime later the second alarm was requested, to include Engine 3. While working defensively to extinguish the fire, companies realized that there was another building on fire about 50 yards away and command sent three engines and one truck from staging. As Engine 3 and the other companies made their way to the second building and were preparing to extinguish the fire command advised all companies to cease all efforts. This determination was due to the buildings being a constant target of arson and are scheduled to be demolished anyway. With that, the incident was scaled back and Engine 3 cleared.

It is with deep regret and profound sadness that Towson Station 1-B announces the passing of our beloved brother, FADO Thomas E. Rice. TR passed away at 0015 hours on January 21,2009 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. His family and friends surrounded him at the time of his death.
TR's short but very meaningful life touched the hearts of all he came in contact with. He was a FADO at the Towson Station for ten years and a member of the Baltimore County Fire Department for twenty-two years. In addition, he was a beloved and respected Captain and life member at the Providence Volunteer Fire Company. More recently, he became a member of the Kingsville Volunteer Fire Company. Also, he was a MFRI instructor for the fire service and taught many students the art of firefighting. His calm demeanor, wonderful sense of humor, knowledge, and skills made him one of the best firefighters in the fire service. He will truly be missed!!

NOVEMBER 24th 2008 at 1547 Firebox 3-13 was struck for a Dwelling Fire, The address of 3620 Old Milford Mill Rd. Engine 3 crew, without the protection of a hoseline entered the structure through the rear door, making their way past the fire into the bedroom where the trapped occupant was located. As the crew made the bedroom the police and the bystander had just finished pulling trapped occupant to safety. No additional occupants were found and the Pt was transported by Medic 3 to a local hospital for evaluation. A Police Officer was also treated for minor injuries. Units remained on the scene for approx 2 hours and the cause of the fire was ruled accidental from cooking.

They quickly removed the lady from the house where the engine driver and police began medical treatment. The crew of Engine 3 then regained possesion of their attack line, forced the front doors open, and extinguished the bulk of the fire. The other companies worked to perform searches, threw ladders, etc. Crews were held to overhaul and assist fire investigators before clearing at approx. 0430hrs. The cause of the fire was a space heater. Engine 331 was stretching their attack line to the rear, and Engine 3's crew forced entry to Side Alpha and began search and rescue operations on the 2nd floor. After negative results on the primary search of the 2nd floor Engine 3's crew made their way back to the 1st floor to assist other units when the members fell from the 1st floor into the basement. A May Day was declared, which automatically brings an additional alarm. Within minutes the firefighters were removed from the basement, and transported to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center for evaluation. Command held 2 Engine companies from the 2nd alarm and the rest of the assignment was cancelled. Within a few hours both Firefighters were discharged with minor injuries. As it turned out there was nobody inside the residence and no other injuries were reported
